S video cables: for video data transmission

S video cables or separate video cables transmit video data for standard definition monitors. These S cables, which do not carry any audio signals, can be used for image reception at 480i or 576 resolution. A number of consumer products such as TV, game consoles, DVD players, VCRs use S video cables. You can also convert composite signals to S video by the use of converter adaptors. Three different cables – yellow, red and green - combine together to make a composite cable. These converter cables have no impact on image quality, and only allow incompatible devices to be connected with an S video.

S video cables are not useful for high definition video signals, as they need a greater amount of bandwidth than these cables are capable of carrying. These cables are easily available in an electronic supply store or a computer supply store. You should check the warranty that comes with it when you buy an S video cable. S video cables come in three different lengths: 1.5 m, 3.05 m, and 6.1 m. It is wiser to choose a cable slightly longer than what you actually require so that it does not pull on the connectors.

Compare various connection options and choose suitably from them. When connecting an S cable, confirm that the pins are locked completely into place before securing the cable. The cable becomes useless if the pins are broken. Although HDMI cables have started making inroads into the market, the S video cable is still being widely used.
